Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-style)

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 tablespoon dried oregano

1 tablespoon dried basil

1 teaspoon garlic powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)

2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare Chicken: Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and garlic powder on both sides.

Set Up Dredging Stations: In three separate shallow dishes, place the flour, beaten eggs, and a mixture of breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, oregano, and basil.

Dredge the Chicken: Dredge each chicken breast in flour, shaking off the excess. Then dip it into the beaten eggs before coating it in the breadcrumb mixture. Make sure to press the crumbs onto the chicken to ensure a good coating.

Pan-Sear the Chicken: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the breaded chicken breasts, searing for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. You might need to do this in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.

Assembly: In a large baking dish, spread 1 cup of marinara sauce on the bottom. Place the seared chicken breasts on top. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the chicken, then sprinkle the mozzarella cheese generously on top.

Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. After 25 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Garnish & Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired. Serve with pasta or a side salad for a complete meal!
