Ingredients

6 slices of bread (white, whole grain, or brioche)

2 large eggs

1/2 cup milk (or milk alternative)

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)

Pinch of salt

2 tbsp maple syrup (plus extra for serving)

Cooking spray or a light brush of melted butter

Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Fresh berries (for serving, optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Bread: Cut each slice of bread into approximately 1-inch cubes. If using stale bread, this will work particularly well as it holds its shape better.

Make the Batter: In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), salt, and maple syrup until well combined.

Coat the Bread: Place the bread cubes into the bowl of batter. Gently toss the bread until all cubes are evenly coated. Let sit for about 5-10 minutes to absorb the batter.

Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for about 3-5 minutes.

Prepare the Air Fryer Basket: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or brush a thin layer of melted butter to prevent sticking.

Air Fry the Cubes: Carefully arrange the soaked bread cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Avoid overcrowding to ensure even cooking. You may need to cook in batches.

Cook: Air fry the cubes at 350°F for about 8-10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until golden brown and slightly crispy.

Serve: Once cooked, remove the French toast cubes from the air fryer and transfer them to a serving plate. Dust with powdered sugar, drizzle with extra maple syrup, and top with fresh berries if desired.

Enjoy: Serve immediately while they are warm and crispy!
