Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

½ cup brown sugar, packed

1 tablespoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

¼ teaspoon ground ginger

½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

1 cup canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1-2 tablespoons milk (optional, for brushing)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger until well combined.

Cut in the Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well combined.

Combine Mixtures: Pour the pumpkin mixture into the dry ingredients. Using a spatula, gently fold the mixtures together until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Add Chocolate Chips: Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips, distributing them evenly throughout the dough.

Shape the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat the dough into a circle about 1-inch thick.

Cut Scones: Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, slice the dough into 8 equal wedges. Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart.

Brush with Milk: (Optional) If you want a nice shiny top, lightly brush each scone with a little milk before baking.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool and Serve: Allow the scones to cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy with a drizzle of maple syrup or a spread of your choice!
